About the role
Santus Consulting is an indigenous Human Resources Consulting brand looking for a Director of Investment. This is a founding leadership position where you will establish, build, and manage an investment desk within a permanent capital institution. You will be accountable for investment strategy, capital allocation, governance, and portfolio development. The role involves originating companies, deploying capital, appointing executive leadership, and building long-term institutional value.
Responsibilities
- Investment Strategy: Develop and execute short-term and long-term strategies, identify new companies, and build a sustainable pipeline of opportunities.
- Capital Allocation: Ensure compliance with governance standards, present investment cases to the Investment Committee, and certify that conditions are met before capital release.
- Leadership: Constitute company boards, appoint suitable board members, and recruit chief executives for portfolio companies.
- Portfolio Oversight: Provide strategic direction, ensure companies operate within approved frameworks, and work with appointed executives without assuming operational management.
- Relationships: Develop relationships with regulators, development finance institutions, and industrial counterparties to support long-term investment opportunities.
- Performance: Deliver agreed operating targets, build companies with contracted revenue, and ensure portfolio governance withstands due diligence.
Requirements
- Experience taking an asset or company from origination through operation with accountability for outcomes.
- Established personal relationships within the relevant investment sector.
- Excellent writing, documentation, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to distinguish between an opportunity and a viable company and bridge the gap.
- Experience operating within structured governance frameworks.
- Proven experience constituting boards and appointing chief executives.
- Direct decision-making authority over capital allocation and strong investment judgement.
