About the role
Phillips Outsourcing Limited is seeking a Data Protection Officer to join their team in Lekki, Lagos. This is a full-time position where you will play a key role in ensuring the company meets its data protection obligations. You will work closely with management and stakeholders to uphold privacy standards and manage compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act.
Responsibilities
- Advise the Board, management, and employees on data protection obligations and privacy-by-design requirements.
- Maintain the privacy governance framework, including records of processing activities and data retention standards.
- Monitor compliance through risk-based reviews, staff training, and tracking of corrective actions.
- Advise on and monitor Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for high-risk processing activities.
- Coordinate the assessment and escalation of personal data incidents and breaches.
- Serve as a key contact point for the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) and other stakeholders.
- Report material privacy risks and data incidents to appropriate management structures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Information Management, Business, or a related field.
- 7 – 10 years of experience in privacy, legal/compliance, information governance, or risk management.
- Relevant professional qualifications such as CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT, ISO 27701/27001, CISA, or a legal qualification.
- Practical knowledge of the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) and NDPC guidance.
- Strong integrity, confidentiality, and stakeholder-management skills.
