About the role
APM Terminals is the global terminal operating arm of the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group. We are looking for a Banksman to join our team in Lagos. This position offers the chance to develop practical expertise in vessel and yard operations while gaining exposure to real-time terminal activities.
Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate recording and maintenance of vessel and cargo information.
- Maintain electronic and physical filing systems for operational records.
- Monitor crane and vessel performance and provide updates on vessel progress.
- Follow terminal safety rules, operating procedures, and work instructions at all times.
- Coordinate vessel-related documentation and real-time operational updates.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions while supporting safe lifting practices.
- Support vessel turnaround activities to help minimize operational delays.
Requirements
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with the ability to work accurately under pressure.
- A continuous improvement mindset with curiosity about how work gets done.
- Good knowledge of shipping, terminal, and port operations, including maritime documentation.
- Strong communication skills in English and Pidgin English.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and terminal operating systems.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
