About the role
Caava Group is transforming the African insurance landscape through its platform, Evolve. As a Backend Engineer, you will join the Evolve team to implement backend changes, test services, and gain practical knowledge of insurance workflows. This entry-level position is ideal for candidates with internship or project experience who are ready to grow under the guidance of experienced engineers.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain Evolve services using Java and Spring Boot.
- Develop and update REST APIs and SQL queries.
- Write and maintain unit and integration tests for your changes.
- Submit code changes through Git branches and pull requests.
- Investigate issues using logs and test environments.
- Follow secure coding practices and support release preparation.
Requirements
- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or a related field, or equivalent practical training.
- Foundational Java skills and familiarity with Spring Boot.
- Understanding of object-oriented programming, data structures, and algorithms.
- Basic knowledge of REST APIs, HTTP, JSON, SQL, and Git.
- Ability to write basic automated tests and explain your code.
- Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach.
