About the role
Amadeus University is a private institution located in Amizi, Ikwuano LGA, Abia State. Recently approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria and licensed by the National Universities Commission (NUC), the university focuses on innovation, excellence, and high ethical standards in tertiary education. This position is within the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, College of Health Sciences, specifically in the Department of Human Anatomy.
The successful candidate will provide academic and intellectual leadership, conduct high-impact research, and contribute to the university’s mission of excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement.
Responsibilities
- Teaching: Conduct lectures, tutorials, and practical demonstrations for MBBS, BDS, and Allied Health Science students. Prepare lecture notes, slides, and laboratory manuals in line with NUC and MDCN standards.
- Assessment: Participate in OSPE, OSCE, and MBBS Professional Examinations. Set, invigilate, mark, and submit Continuous Assessment and Examination scores within approved timelines.
- Laboratory: Enforce standard operating procedures and good laboratory practice. Supervise practical classes and ensure safety, proper handling, calibration, and maintenance of equipment and reagents.
- Research: Target at least one publication in a peer-reviewed journal during the probationary period. Undertake research under senior faculty mentorship and participate in departmental journal clubs and seminars.
- Administration: Maintain accurate records of student attendance and assessments. Attend departmental, faculty, and college meetings. Contribute to accreditation and quality assurance activities.
- Professional Development: Register for a PhD programme within one year of appointment if not already a holder. Attend workshops, conferences, and faculty development programmes. Adhere to university academic ethics and MDCN professional codes.
Requirements
- A Doctorate Degree (Ph.D.) in the relevant field from a recognised university is mandatory.
- Registration with the relevant professional body or bodies in the discipline.
- A minimum of nine (9) years of post-qualification experience in teaching and research in a university.
- Demonstrated capacity for academic and institutional leadership.
- Demonstrated evidence of capacity to initiate, develop, and supervise research.
- An excellent and verifiable record of scholarly publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals and books.
- Evidence of successful supervision of postgraduate students to completion is an advantage.
