About the role
Proten International is looking for a detail-oriented and technically competent Assistant Geotechnical Laboratory Technician in Lagos. This full-time position involves supporting laboratory operations, preparing geological samples, and conducting tests. You will ensure all activities comply with safety standards and quality requirements.
Responsibilities
- Receive, label, catalogue, and safely store geological samples for testing.
- Collect and prepare soil, rock, and other specimens according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Conduct assigned laboratory tests and determine appropriate testing procedures.
- Set up, clean, maintain, and recalibrate laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy.
- Record test results, compile data, and prepare reports for review.
- Maintain accurate equipment records, daily work logs, and laboratory databases.
- Ensure proper handling of laboratory materials and maintain a safe environment.
Requirements
- A B.Sc. in Geology or an applied science discipline such as Chemistry or Physics.
- A minimum of a Second Class Lower degree from a recognised institution.
- 3–5 years of experience as a laboratory technician, preferably in geotechnical or geological testing.
- Familiarity with basic geological software and computer applications for data analysis.
- Strong report-writing, documentation, and filing skills.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure.
- Strong scientific reasoning, analytical abilities, and mechanical aptitude.
