About the role
We are seeking a dedicated Able Seaman (AB) to join our maritime team in Port Harcourt. This is a permanent position within a reputable Oil & Gas, Shipping, and Maritime company. You will play a key part in ensuring vessel safety, operational efficiency, and compliance with international maritime standards.
Responsibilities
- Participate in safety drills and maintain accurate daily activity logs.
- Ensure the vessel, deck equipment, mooring lines, and rigging remain clean and in serviceable condition.
- Supervise cargo and personnel transfers, and support mooring, unmooring, and towing operations.
- Stand deck watches at sea and in port, and engine-room watches where required, adhering to STCW standards.
- Follow the Safety Management System and pollution-prevention procedures, reporting all accidents, incidents, and near-misses promptly.
Requirements
- STCW Basic Safety Training (Personal Survival Techniques, Fire Prevention & Firefighting, Elementary First Aid, Personal Safety & Social Responsibility).
- STCW Certificate of Proficiency as Able Seafarer-Deck / Rating Forming Part of a Navigational Watch.
- SSCE / O’Level and completion of an approved deck-rating / Able Seafarer training programme.
- 2–3 years’ sea-time as an Able Seaman or deck rating, preferably on offshore support or marine vessels.
- Valid Seaman’s Discharge Book (NIMASA-recognized), Seafarer’s Medical Fitness Certificate, and international passport.
- Good spoken and written English.
- Advantage: PSCRB, HUET/BOSIET, and STCW Security Awareness.
