Yobe electoral slates October 30 for bye-election in Geidam LG

The Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission, (YOSIEC), has set aside Saturday, October 30, 2021 as date for the conduct of bye-election in two wards of Geidam Local Government in the state.

This was disclosed on Saturday by the chairman of the Commission, Dr. Mamman at a stakeholders’ engagement on how to conduct a bye-election to fill in the gap created after the death of two Councillors in Geidam Local Government in line with the provision of the state’s electoral act.

“On Friday, 4th June, 2021, a report for the death of two Honorable Councilors in Hon. Hassan Bukar Mairami representing Ashekri ward and Hon. Yusuf Mustapha representing Hausari ward all in Geidam local government area came to us.

“The death, according to the report was as a result of fatal accident along Bayamari – Damaturu road”, Mohammed said.

The chairman of the electoral umpire noted that, the sudden death of the two council members has created a vacuum that must be filled by democratically elected persons.

“It is my hope, therefore, that all most especially the political parties would follow the rules of the game”, he urged.

The chairman, then released list of activities line up for the conduct of the bye-election.

Recall that, on the 27th of February, 2021, Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission conducted election into the 17 local governments and 178 electoral wards in the state.
