Why Buhari should grant Nnamdi Kanu, Igboho, terrorists, sponsors – Ajulo

Kayode Ajulo, a constitutional , has urged President to grant Nnamdi Kanu, Sunday Igboho, repentant terrorists, bandits and their sponsors leniency.

Ajulo made the call in a statement on Sunday entitled “A Plea of for Sunday Igboho, Nnamdi Kanu and Others”.

Kanu, of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and Igboho, a Yoruba Nation agitator, are in government in Nigeria and Benin Republic.

Ajulo appealed to the President to consider mercy as a matter of national importance to “change the narrative of war”.

He said as the of the nation, Buhari should “extend forgiveness to agitators, repentant terrorists and bandits who are up in arms against the state”.

Ajulo said as the ‘principalem repraesentativum and numerus unus civis’ of Nigeria, it is well within his right to clemency.

“The quality of mercy is not strained. It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven. Upon the place beneath, it is twice blest. It blesseth him that gives and him that takes”, he added.

The lawyer explained that the leniency should not be construed as suggesting an end to military action in states by banditry and insurgency.

Ajulo said the psychological dimension of the warfare presumed that the armed forces could ramp up their operations by paying attention to the disposition of outlaws already fatigued.

“The President can change the narrative of the war by offering a one-time peace-pact to some identified leaders and financial sponsors of terrorism as well as leaders of secession movements such as IPOB and Ilana Omo Oodua”, he advised.
