UNIPORT bans “pleasure swimming” as undergraduate dies in pool


The of Harcourt has announced a ban on “pleasure swimming” at the Olympic size swimming pool in the institution.

Spokesman of the institution, Sam Kpenu, who made the announcement in a statement on Tuesday, said the will only be opened to professionals.

Kpenu, who confirmed the incident, said the 100 level student of the Faculty of Marine drowned in the pool located at the Abuja campus of UNIPORT.

OMADAILY gathered that some police who got wind of the incident had arrived the scene and two of his friends for questioning while the corpse had been deposited at the University of Harcourt mortuary.

However, when contacted, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police command, Omoni, said the command was not yet aware of the incident.
