Niger: parade five over vandalism, theft of transformers

The Niger State Command has effected the arrest of five persons over and theft of transformers in the state.

Parading the suspects in Minna, the state capital, Relations , PPRO, DSP Wasiu said the suspects were arrested last week Tuesday.

He explained that the suspects were arrested at Lapai-Gwari area along road, Minna by the Chanchaga Division patrol team during a routine patrol of the area.

According to him, they conspired among themselves, vandalised two electric transformers in the area, and carted away some of the electric cables.

The suspects include Hussaini Adamu 23yrs, Mustapha Umar 17yrs, Mande Magaji 17yrs, Suleiman Zubairu 16yrs, Salisu Usman (receiver) 25yrs, all male of Kasuwan-Gwari, Minna.

He revealed that four of the suspects arrested at the scene confessed to the crime and led the to Salisu Usman at Kasuwan-Gwari, Minna who bought the cables from them.

Abiodun also stated that the case is still under investigation, while exhibits recovered from the suspects are: three insulators and a vandalised electric transformer.

The then urged of the public to to support them and other security with relevant information to secure the environment.
