Ex-Head of State, Major Gen. J T U Aguiyi-Ironsi’s wife, Victoria to be buried Friday

The remains of Victoria, the wife of Nigeria’s first Head of State, Major General J. T. U Aguiyi Ironsi, will be committed to the mother earth, on Friday, November 5, 2021, at her Umuahia country home in Abia State.

This was disclosed in a statement by the first son of the Late Aguiyi-Ironsi and former Nigerian of Defence, Thompson Aguiyi, and made available to OMADAILY, in Umuahia, on Wednesday.

OMADAILY recalls that the late Victoria Aguiyi Ironsi passed away in August, at the age of 97.

The deceased’s husband, Johnson Thomas Umunnakwe Aguiyi-Ironsi, who had also died, seized power during a national chaos following the January 15, 1966 military coup.

He became the Supreme of the National Military and was killed on July 29,1966 during a counter coup.

In the same vein, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has expressed deep sadness over the death of a former First Lady of Nigeria, Her Excellency, Noble Lady Victoria Aguiyi Ironsi.

This was contained in a statement issued on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Onyebuchi Ememanka.

According to Ikpeazu, “Noble Lady Aguiyi Ironsi became a personification of the finest ideals of public service and a permanent resource person to successive First Ladies in our state. Till death, she carried herself with great dignity and charisma”, the said.

He added that “the death of this woman has robbed our state of one of her greatest political and historical icons, noting that her place in contemporary history is assured”.

Similarly, Ikpeazu has invited dignitaries to join him at the Service Mass of the former First Lady of Nigeria, Lady Victoria Aguiyi-Ironsi, on Friday, November 5th 2021 at Saint Theresa’s Church, Afaraukwu Ibeku in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State.

In a release by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barrister Chris Ezem, on Wednesday, Ikpeazu invited the following persons to funeral Service; Deputy Governor, Speaker of Abia House of Assembly, Members of the State House of Assembly, the Chief Judge, President, Customary of Appeal Abia State and Security Service chiefs.

Others are, State Head of Service, all Commissioners, Executive of the 17 Local Government Areas of Abia, political stakeholders, Service chiefs, rulers, statesmen and the media practitioners.

According to the release by the SSG, all Covid-19 protocols will be strictly observed.
