Bayelsa Police Commissioner orders probe into death of in custody

The Leadership of the Bayelsa Police Command has ordered a probe into the sudden death of a 27--old male, who died in police custody.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Echeng E. Echeng, ordered for discreet investigation and autopsy to determine the cause of the death of the deceased, Goodluck Oviekeme.

The CP gave the order in a statement, made available to OMADAILY on Saturday, in Yenagoa, through the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Asinim Butswat.

The statement read “The deceased suspect was arrested in connection with the armed robbery incident that occurred on 21 September 2021, at Biogbolo, Yenagoa, when hoodlums attacked a Police Patrol , fatally Inspector Ugbotor and carted away his rifle”

Preliminary investigation that Goodluck Oviekeme was the mastermind of the on the patrol team. He was arrested on 22 September 2021 at about 0300 hours, while in Police custody the suspect was observed to be running a high temperature and was taken to the where he eventually died.

The CP condoled the family of the deceased and assured the general public that investigations have commenced and that the outcome will be made public.
